Clinical Photography: A Comprehensive Hands-On Workshop

Join Dr Shivam Kotecha and Dr Harry Craig for a full-day, hands-on workshop covering everything from the fundamentals of dental photography to advanced techniques in lighting and auxiliary equipment. This interactive session will equip you with the skills to capture consistent, high-quality images that elevate patient communication, streamline documentation, and support case submission for BACD Accreditation. With live demonstrations and guided practice throughout, you’ll leave with practical knowledge you can immediately apply in clinical practice.
Aims
  • To provide delegates with a comprehensive foundation in clinical dental photography, from essential camera settings to advanced lighting techniques
  • To demonstrate how high-quality, standardised images can enhance communication with patients, colleagues, and laboratories
  • To equip delegates with the knowledge and skills required to produce photography suitable for BACD Accreditation and portfolio development
  • To give delegates confidence in utilising auxiliary equipment and light modification for consistent, reproducible results
  • To promote photography as an integral part of modern, ethical, and patient-centred dental practice
Objectives
By the end of this workshop, delegates will be able to:
  1. Set up and operate DSLR or mirrorless cameras for intraoral and extraoral photography
  2. Apply effective retraction, mirror, and contrastor techniques to achieve standardised clinical views
  3. Modify and control light sources to enhance image quality and minimise common errors
  4. Incorporate auxiliary equipment (mirrors, retractors, contrastors, flashes) to achieve consistent, professional results
  5. Capture the full BACD Accreditation photography series to the required standard
  6. Understand file management, organisation, and editing workflows for efficient case documentation
  7. Confidently integrate photography into daily practice to improve treatment planning, patient communication, and presentation of clinical cases
