Dentists who are no more than three years graduated at the date of submission.
The deadline for submission is THURSDAY 28 JULY 2022
You will receive notification as to whether your poster has been accepted or not by the end of September 2022 at the latest.
The entries will be evaluated by the Poster Presentations Committee.  The winner will be announced at the BACD Gala Dinner during the evening of Friday 11 November 2022. Presenters must be knowledgeable in their subjects and prepared to answer questions in English.  Co-authors and/or mentors may be available to assist in answering questions.

Registration requirements
The author and/or person presenting the poster must be registered for the BACD Annual Conference 2022 as an attendee.
Only one applicant per poster. If the poster has more than one author, only ONE AUTHOR can apply. The applicant and the presenter must be the same person.

First prize: one year’s BACD membership, free dinner ticket, conference registration, travel, and accommodation at the BACD Annual Conference on 09 – 11 November 2023 at IET Savoy Place, London
Second prize: one year’s BACD membership and free conference registration at the BACD Annual Conference on 09 – 11 November 2023 at IET Savoy Place, London

Mode of presentation
Poster presentations are typically a report of research or an innovative clinical technique. Please note: posters must be presented in English.
Application process
Applications should include: entry category, the names of ALL authors (listing the presenting author first inc. his/her email address), qualifications/degrees of authors, academic affiliations, title of the poster and a short abstract.
• You are free to display your information in figures, tables, text, photography etc.
• Briefly describe procedures and materials. Define all trade names first and then use generic names throughout the text. All compounds and drugs must be identified.
• It is helpful to viewers if the sequence to be followed is indicated by numbers, letters, or arrows.
• The main author can submit just one poster, but he/she may be co-author in another main author’s poster.

Before creating your poster, you should consider the following points
How to structure your information
Ensure that the most important information you are presenting is the most visible on your poster. This can be achieved in a variety of ways. You could simply change the font to bold or increase the font size, however this may be too much if you have a large paragraph of text. A simpler way would be to either change the colour of the text itself or add a background colour to the text box to make it stand out.
How to use text
When presenting information, graphics are often more powerful than words, so try to keep text in short sentences/paragraphs so they are easy and quick to read. Lists are also very effective when presenting information as they keep text short and simple and can often be related to graphics and charts effectively.
When choosing fonts, always remember not to use too many fonts in one design, keep to two different fonts at most. Try not to vary the font size too much except for elements such as headers where you want to create obvious breaks in your copy.
Graphics, graphs, charts and photographs
Graphics are probably the most important part of your poster, they convey important information in visual, easy to understand, ways that text often cannot. They keep interest and draw attention to information. Graphics can take any form including: graphs, charts and photographs. Graphs and charts are the perfect way to display data and can often stand on their own without text, whereas photographs are often used to support nearby text. Most graphic design programmes include graph and chart functionality to automatically create these features for you.
Whenever including graphics in your design, always remember to include a figure number, which you can then reference in your text, so the reader knows where to look for the information you are referencing.
What software should you use to create your poster?
There are plenty of programmes that you could use to create your poster, however some are not intended for design. Ideally you should use specialist graphics software such as Adobe InDesign, however it’s unlikely that most people will have a copy of this. You are most likely to have a copy of Microsoft Publisher which is suitable for design.
There are some pieces of software that you should try to avoid, these are Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint and other similar word-processing and presentation software. Although Microsoft Word does have some design features its intended use is for writing letters and other similar stationery projects.
There may be other solutions you come across, and the most important thing to remember is that you will need to export your design to a PDF (recommended) or a graphics file such as a jpeg. If the software you choose can do this, you should be able to use it to create your poster. Any other file formats (such as Word .doc files or PowerPoint .ppt files) must be avoided as they are not accepted.
Posters will be printed in A1 size, and on full view in the exhibition hall at the BACD annual conference 2020. Those poster presenters who are not short-listed will still have their posters displayed.
What to do with your poster on completion
Once you have completed your poster, you will need to submit it, ideally electronically via Dropbox. As described above you will need to export your poster to a PDF or Jpeg file.
When uploading, the file size should be kept below 10MB. You can save a reduced file using Adobe Acrobat, however, please ensure that when exporting a reduced file size PDF, which it is saved with an older compatibility version. Version 8 should work.
Once your poster is uploaded correctly, you will receive an email confirmation from BACD.
General Terms and Conditions
It is the sole responsibility of the author uploading a poster for printing, to gain the consent of any and all other co-authors, copyright holders, licensees, and or other interested parties to upload that poster. The uploading author acknowledges this responsibility, and that no liability is accepted by BACD for this in the event of any dispute or disagreement among the authors.
The copyright of the work remains with the author(s) but BACD reserves the right to use extracts and abstracts of the work for promotional and educational purposes.
