Creating synergy: orthodontic restorative interface

Aims and objectives:

  • To familiarise the practitioner with the latest techniques used in the orthodontic treatment of adults
  • To explain how a combined treatment plan is formulated by starting with the end in mind
  • To explain the possible range of tooth movements possible and their impact on restorative dentistry
  • To explain the concept of anchorage, how it is created and used in the treatment of ortho-restorative cases
  • To be able to create a problem list and treatment plan
  • How technology can help in the formulation of the treatment plan
  • To explain the basis of retention and how it is incorporated into the restorative treatment plan
  • To illustrate new concepts in materials and how they can be used in joint cases by both clinicians
  • Guidelines for trt planning and communication

Speaker – Ian Hutchinson

Ian Hutchinson

Ian qualified from Newcastle in 1991 and after several Hospital posts and time in General practice, he undertook his Specialist training in Bristol (96-99).

He is currently Chairman member of the British Lingual Orthodontic Society (served on the committee sine 2006) and serves on the Editorial Board of The European Journal of Orthodontics (May 2010 – present) and has had several articles published himself in various peer reviewed journals.

He founded the Warwick MSc in Lingual Orthodontics and runs his own Orthodontic courses ranging from a simple introduction to Cosmetic Orthodontic Aligning to a Comprehensive 12 day Advanced Lingual Orthodontics course and has a Post Graduate Award in Education.   The courses are run in his private practice in Chepstow where he undertakes not just Orthodontic treatment but also restorative work as well.  Ian can frequently be found presenting at the European and also World Lingual Orthodontic conferences and also as a delegate at the BACD and other Restorative courses, thinking of how best to combine both Ortho and Restorative to create the perfect smile.  He is a full member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Ian is also a judge on the UK Aesthetic Dentistry Awards panel and Specialist Advisor to the European Society of Aesthetic Orthodontics .
